A South African team has been dispatched to Mozambique to assist in search and rescue operations following severe floods. The efforts are focused on locating Andile Mngwevu, a councillor from the Ekurhuleni municipality east of Johannesburg, and four other individuals. Their vehicle was reportedly caught in floodwaters in Mozambique's Gaza province.
Officials have confirmed that one passenger has been accounted for, while the status and whereabouts of the remaining occupants are currently unconfirmed. The extensive flooding has affected regions in both Mozambique and South Africa. As a consequence of the severe weather, Mozambican President Daniel Chapo cancelled his planned attendance at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
