Mount Gambier Deputy Mayor Josh Lynagh has reported a series of celebrity-themed pranks occurring at his residence in recent weeks. The most recent incident involved the placement of a Nicolas Cage-themed shrine outside his home.
Earlier incidents included various objects left in Cr Lynagh's letterbox. Before Christmas, items such as a signed photo of Delta Goodrem, a bulb of garlic, shark-shaped children's floaties, and a 30-cent stamp were delivered. Approximately a week later, a children's biography of actor Keanu Reeves and a sticker with a QR code linking to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" were left. Last Wednesday, six framed photos of Keanu Reeves, three battery-operated candles, and a note in Morse code stating "the black raven is the key" were placed near his mail receptacle.
Cr Lynagh, who was elected in 2022 and became deputy mayor in 2024, operates the Limestone Coast Community News Facebook page and chairs the Mount Gambier and Districts Health Advisory Council. He has suggested that the individual responsible, referred to as the "letterbox lurker," may have an interest in local council matters. This theory is supported by the inclusion of blue items and googly eyes in one set of objects, which Cr Lynagh believes could be a reference to the "Cast in Blue" sculpture. Googly eyes were placed on this sculpture in September, an incident for which a woman was charged. Cr Lynagh had voted for the sculpture's installation and reported on the court case via his Facebook page.
Despite the ongoing incidents, Cr Lynagh has stated he is not concerned, believing the pranks are being carried out by someone he knows. He expressed a desire for the identity of the person or group responsible to be revealed, noting he is also finding enjoyment in the ongoing mystery.
