The event occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on a Friday when a man, who was being pursued and shot at, entered the restaurant's foyer. New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick stated that the restaurant was occupied at the time, and three bystanders sustained injuries in the foyer due to the gunfire.
The three wounded individuals were women visiting as tourists, waiting for tables. Two of the women were friends from Los Angeles; one suffered severe gunshot wounds and underwent multiple surgeries, remaining hospitalized. The second friend had surgery and is in stable condition. The third woman, from Florida, sustained graze wounds and was treated and released.
Police are actively searching for the unknown gunman. Kirkpatrick noted that there is speculation the gunman may have had accomplices. The individual killed was the target of the shooting, which authorities believe appears to be retaliatory. A reward of $13,500 is offered for information.
