Tragic Weekend on Queensland Roads: Six Fatalities in Two Separate Collisions

Kingaroy Area Collision Claims Three Lives
A devastating collision on the Bunya Highway at Taabinga, near Kingaroy – approximately 200 kilometers north-west of Brisbane – resulted in three fatalities and one serious injury. The incident occurred shortly after 10 pm.
The crash took place on the Bunya Highway at Taabinga, specifically near the intersection of Stuart Valley Drive and Toomey's Road. It involved a Dodge Ram ute and a Ford Ranger ute. Tragically, the Dodge Ram subsequently caught fire.
The fatalities from this incident include:
- The male driver of the Dodge Ram, who was the sole occupant, died at the scene.
- A 44-year-old female driver of the Ford Ranger died at the scene.
- A 12-year-old female passenger from the Ford Ranger also died at the scene.
A 13-year-old girl, also a passenger in the Ford Ranger, sustained serious but stable injuries. She was initially transported to Kingaroy Hospital before being airlifted to Queensland Children's Hospital for further care. The Bunya Highway was closed at the crash site for several hours but has since reopened.
Police are appealing for information from anyone who was traveling in the area at the time of the crash or has dash cam footage.
Yarrabilba Crash: Three Fatalities, Multiple Critical Injuries
A separate two-vehicle collision on Waterford Tamborine Road in Yarrabilba, a Logan suburb south of Brisbane, also resulted in three fatalities and three serious injuries. This incident occurred at approximately 4:30 pm on a Saturday.
The crash unfolded on Waterford Tamborine Road in Yarrabilba, between Camp Cable Road and Dollarbird Drive. It involved a white Toyota HiLux ute and a white Volkswagen station wagon. Both vehicles rolled over, with the ute subsequently catching fire.
The three fatalities confirmed in this collision are:
- The 18-year-old male driver of the ute, from Marsden, died at the scene.
- The 65-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen, from Stafford Heights, died at the scene.
- A 33-year-old female passenger of the Volkswagen, from Kedron, also died at the scene.
Three other individuals sustained serious injuries:
- A 65-year-old woman, an occupant of the Volkswagen from Stafford Heights, was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital with critical injuries.
- A 36-year-old man, an occupant of the Volkswagen from Kedron, was also transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital with critical injuries.
- A two-year-old girl, also an occupant of the Volkswagen, was transported to Queensland Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, swiftly responded to the scene, with hydraulic cutting equipment used to extricate a trapped passenger. The section of Waterford Tamborine Road was closed for several hours while crash investigators conducted their examination.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the accident, and Queensland Police have requested that anyone with relevant information or dash cam footage contact them. Investigations into the crash's circumstances are ongoing.
