Shellharbour Deputy Mayor Kellie Marsh is currently in intensive care at Sydney's Prince of Wales Hospital after experiencing a medical emergency last Friday morning. Ms. Marsh suffered seizures caused by two ruptured aneurysms, which led to subarachnoid hemorrhages (bleeding between the brain and its covering tissues).
Shellharbour Mayor Chris Homer was on holiday on the South Coast when he received a phone call from Ms. Marsh. Cr Homer, who was about to go surfing, decided to answer the call. Approximately five minutes into their conversation, Ms. Marsh began to become unresponsive. Cr Homer stated she made unusual noises, mentioned seeing "starry-eyed things," and then faded from the call.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, Cr Homer contacted Ms. Marsh's 23-year-old son, Nathan, asking him to check on his mother. Nathan subsequently found his mother collapsed on the bathroom floor, unresponsive and foaming at the mouth. Cr Homer then contacted Triple Zero (000) for emergency assistance.
Ms. Marsh was transported to Wollongong Hospital before being transferred to Sydney, where she has since undergone two surgeries.
