A child is receiving urgent medical treatment in a Melbourne hospital after sustaining serious knife wounds in Tasmania. Police were called to Launceston General Hospital just before midnight on Monday after the child arrived with stab injuries.
The child was in a serious condition and was subsequently airlifted to Melbourne for further medical care.
A woman also presented at the Launceston General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and is in police custody.
Tasmania Police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident as a suspected wounding. Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing and there is no risk to the public.
