Commercial flights are experiencing daily disruptions due to GPS jamming.
GPS Jamming Disruptions
More than 1,000 commercial flights are affected daily by GPS jamming. These disruptions primarily originate from Russian electronic interference along significant European and Middle Eastern flight corridors. The scale of GPS interference incidents impacting commercial aviation has increased, with dozens reported daily in 2024.
Quantum Technology Solution
Q-CTRL, an Australian company, reports that it has developed a solution to the GPS jamming issue using quantum technology. The company states that its quantum-powered navigation systems provide accuracy comparable to GPS without relying on satellite signals.
Commercial Quantum Advantage
According to Q-CTRL CEO Michael Biercuk, this marks the first instance since the development of atomic clocks in the 1960s and 1970s that quantum systems are delivering a net advantage in a commercially relevant application. The company also projects that a quantum computing revolution is anticipated within two to three years.
