Computer Science Rankings
The 2026 Computer Science ranking evaluated universities across various specializations, including software development, engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, and networks. Oxford University secured the top position, with its performance noted in teaching and international outlook. Peking University from China entered the top 10 for the first time, recognized for its industry links. A total of 1,165 universities from 84 countries and territories were assessed in this subject.
Physical Sciences Rankings
The 2026 Physical Sciences ranking encompassed core disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Astronomy, Geology, and Environmental, Earth, and Marine Sciences. Caltech achieved the number one position, demonstrating strong performance in industry links. Tsinghua University, also from China, entered the top 10, with notable results in teaching and research environment. This assessment included 1,497 universities across 109 countries and territories.
Methodology
For both the Computer Science and Physical Sciences rankings, Times Higher Education employed 18 performance indicators. These indicators were adapted from the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 and specifically recalibrated to suit the nuances of each respective subject area.
