Victoria Police officers identified a four-wheel-drive with stolen license plates on the Princes Highway in Dandenong around 8:05 PM on Thursday. Officers followed the vehicle, which subsequently stopped outside a motel.
The vehicle allegedly rammed a police van that pulled up alongside it. When two officers exited the van, the driver reportedly accelerated the four-wheel-drive towards them.
Police discharged two shots, which struck the vehicle's chassis. The vehicle then stopped in the motel's driveway. The two occupants were unharmed.
An 18-year-old man from Seaford and a 38-year-old man from South Melbourne were apprehended and taken into custody for questioning. One police officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
A crime scene was established at the motel. Victoria Police have requested that individuals with relevant footage or information contact Crime Stoppers.
The Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation, which is standard procedure when a police firearm is discharged.
