Independent MP Monique Ryan acknowledged that a dysfunctional Coalition could potentially aid her re-election efforts in the Kooyong seat. She stated, "this is a really distressing time for many people who know that the Albanese government needs to be held to account and that the Coalition has been failing to do that for a long time." Ryan added that the crossbench is willing to act but desires the opposition to be effective. She conceded that Coalition issues "potentially" help her election prospects.
Ryan also expressed concerns regarding the hate crimes legislation, despite voting in favor of it. She noted that communities requested action on the issue. Ryan remarked that politics was prioritized over policy in this instance and hoped it would not have negative repercussions.
