UW-Madison has announced the cancellation of all classes for Friday, January 23, in response to anticipated extreme cold.
Weather Advisory
An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for Dane County, effective from midnight to 1 p.m. on Friday. Wind chills are projected to range from -30 to -40 F.
Class Cancellation Details
- The cancellation applies to all class meetings, including lectures, labs, and discussion sections.
- Students with questions should contact their instructors.
Campus Operations
- All other campus operations will continue as scheduled.
- Employees are expected to report to work. Those whose ability to report is impacted by the weather should notify their supervisors to arrange alternative work or use leave time.
- Campus buildings will maintain regular hours.
- All campus services, including University Housing, the Wisconsin Union, and food services, will operate normally.
- UW Athletics events are expected to proceed as scheduled.
Student Information
- Limit outdoor exposure and be aware of frostbite risks.
- Wear appropriate layered clothing, scarves, hats, and gloves.
- Utilize Madison Metro for transportation and monitor schedules for delays.
Employee Information
- Employees can review campus Inclement Weather Policies or contact their supervisor/HR representative.
- Parking permits will not be required on Friday in specific campus lots (16, 26, 34, 45, 57, 59, 60) and off-campus lots (202, 204, 206) serviced by shuttles. Restricted areas remain enforced.
The Chancellor or an authorized designee retains the authority to suspend additional services or close campus buildings if necessary.
