Anbernic has announced its second wireless controller, the RG G01, through a YouTube teaser video. This new gamepad introduces several upgrades compared to its predecessor, the RG P01, which featured Hall effect triggers and joysticks and was priced at $18. The pricing for the RG G01 has not been disclosed, but it may be higher due to the new features.
Key Features
The RG G01 includes a curved color display on the front, similar to offerings from other companies like Turtle Beach. This integrated display allows users to adjust settings, program macros, and remap controls directly on the controller, eliminating the need to connect to a mobile or desktop application. The controller also features four customizable buttons on the back that can be reconfigured using the display. Additionally, switches on the back shorten the travel of the triggers for faster response times, a feature absent from the RG P01.
Heart Rate Sensor
A heart rate sensor is integrated into the side grip of the RG G01. While its practical application in gaming is not fully detailed, the controller will display the user's heart rate on its screen and includes a pulse alarm. Nintendo had previously announced a heart rate-tracking accessory for the Wii in 2009, the Vitality Sensor, which was later canceled.
Connectivity and Compatibility
The RG G01 will support both Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, along with the option to tether via a USB-C cable. It is designed to be compatible with various operating systems and platforms, including Steam, Linux, Windows, Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch consoles. The controller also incorporates a six-axis gyroscope for motion controls, electro-inductive capacitive joysticks, and dual-mode triggers.
