Google Photos has introduced a new generative AI feature called 'Me Meme.' This functionality allows users to combine a photo template with an image of themselves to generate a meme.
The 'Me Meme' feature will first be available to users in the U.S. on both iOS and Android platforms, rolling out over the coming weeks. It was officially announced by Google on its Photos Community site.
Google describes the feature as experimental, noting that generated images may not perfectly match the original photo. The company recommends using well-lit, focused, and front-facing photos for optimal results.
The functionality is powered by Google's Gemini AI technology, specifically Nano Banana, which also supports other AI features within the Google Photos app. When available, 'Me Meme' will be accessible under the 'Create' tab. Users can select a template or upload their own image, then tap 'add photo' and 'Generate.' Options to save, share, or regenerate the image are provided, with more templates expected to be added over time.
