Target Addresses Staff on Minneapolis Immigration Issues
Target has addressed staff concerning recent immigration enforcement activities and protests in Minneapolis, its hometown. The situation includes graffiti reading "ICE out now!" appearing on a Minneapolis Target store, and reports of some enforcement encounters occurring within Target stores or parking lots.
Melissa Kremer, Target's Chief Human Resources Officer, issued a memo to staff acknowledging the "stress many of you may be carrying."
Target "does not have cooperative agreements with any immigration enforcement agency."
The memo further stated that the company is "listening and working to de-escalate where possible." Additionally, Target highlighted new internal resources for employees on safely managing "disruption near our locations." This response comes as Target, which publicly addressed the murder of George Floyd in 2020, has more recently aimed to maintain neutrality on certain political issues.
Operating approximately 20 stores in the greater Twin Cities metro area, Target is a significant employer in the state.
