Stolen Mazda Crash on Monash Freeway
A stolen white Mazda 3, reportedly occupied by up to eight teenage boys, was observed driving erratically inbound on the Monash Freeway in Berwick at approximately 10:15 AM.
At approximately 10:25 AM, the Mazda collided with a Mercedes SUV east of the South Gippsland Highway, causing the SUV to overturn.
The 15-year-old driver of the Mazda was detained by a member of the public until police arrived.
The remaining seven teenagers fled into nearby bushland but were not located, despite aerial search efforts.
The female driver, who was the sole occupant of the Mercedes, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Dandenong Hospital in stable condition.
The Mazda had been reported stolen from a car park in Noble Park on December 30.
Separate Incident: Nissan Navara Fleeing Interception
In a separate incident on the same highway, officers attempted to intercept a Nissan Navara stopped in the emergency lane. The vehicle departed when officers approached.
It subsequently collided with six other vehicles on the freeway at the Belgrave Hallam Road off-ramp.
The driver and passenger of the Nissan exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The Nissan had been stolen from a car park at the Cranbourne Railway Station on January 20.
