Amazon Prepares for Second Major Corporate Layoff Wave
Amazon is planning to eliminate thousands of corporate employees, with reductions expected to commence as soon as next week.
This marks the company's second significant wave of layoffs since October.
The current round is anticipated to affect a similar number of roles as the October cuts, which totaled approximately 14,000 jobs. If these plans proceed, the cumulative job eliminations would approach 30,000.
Streamlining Operations and Cultural ResetThe company states these latest cuts are part of ongoing efforts to streamline operations and reset its culture.
Previously, Amazon initially attributed the October job cuts to changes influenced by AI.
However, CEO Andy Jassy later clarified that those layoffs were tied to cultural fit, rather than cost savings or AI.
Amazon employs over 1.5 million individuals globally, with its corporate workforce comprising approximately 350,000 positions. An Amazon spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment regarding these developments. Reuters had previously reported that this latest round of cuts could begin next week.
