The NBA has postponed two games scheduled for Sunday in Memphis and Milwaukee due to a massive winter storm affecting travel across the U.S. Additionally, a separate NBA game was postponed Saturday due to safety concerns in Minneapolis.
NBA Game Postponements
The game between the Dallas Mavericks and Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday night was postponed. The Mavericks were unable to fly to Milwaukee twice due to the severe weather conditions.
The Denver Nuggets vs. Memphis Grizzlies game, also scheduled for Sunday, was similarly postponed. Reschedule dates for these games were not immediately announced by the league.
NBA Schedule Adjustments
The league also adjusted the start times for two games scheduled for Monday:
- Philadelphia 76ers at Charlotte Hornets will now tip off at 3 p.m. ET (originally 7 p.m.).
- Indiana Pacers at Atlanta Hawks will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET (originally 7:30 p.m.).
Winter Storm Impact Details
The Memphis area was severely affected by snow, sleet, and freezing rain from Saturday morning into Sunday, resulting in widespread power outages and blocked roads. Authorities strongly advised against travel due to icy conditions.
The Nuggets plan to fly out Sunday, pending conditions at Memphis International Airport, as they have a home game against the Detroit Pistons scheduled for Tuesday. The Grizzlies are set to play the Rockets in Houston on Monday.
Broader Basketball Postponements
An NBA G League game between the Memphis Hustle and Stockton Kings, originally scheduled for Monday in Southaven, Mississippi, was postponed and rescheduled for February 19.
Several college women's basketball games were also postponed, including No. 17 Tennessee at No. 18 Mississippi (Monday) and Tulane at Memphis (Tuesday).
In men's college basketball, the game between Tennessee and No. 21 Georgia was moved from Tuesday to Wednesday. Additionally, Sunday games involving Purdue Fort Wayne and IU Indianapolis, and Southern Illinois and Evansville, were postponed.
These recent changes come after dozens of other game adjustments were made earlier in the week in anticipation of the storm's impact.
Separate NBA Postponement Due to Safety Concerns
On Saturday, the NBA postponed a game between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves. This decision was made to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community following a fatal shooting by a federal officer in a commercial district near the Timberwolves' arena.
