Machiavelli Ristorante Italiano, a prominent Sydney CBD establishment, has reportedly closed its doors after accumulating a $1.4 million debt and entering administration. The closure marks an uncertain future for the 37-year-old restaurant.
The establishment, which initially ceased operations on December 23, had announced a "short seasonal break" with an intended re-opening date of January 17. However, the restaurant has remained closed since, with online reservations unavailable and its phone line disconnected.
Administrators were appointed to the restaurant just before Christmas.
The owners have not yet issued a public statement regarding the situation, leaving the future of the venue uncertain.
For decades, Machiavelli Ristorante Italiano was renowned as a destination for business lunches and dinners, attracting a clientele of notable figures. The restaurant was also distinctively recognized for its walls adorned with portraits of celebrities and politicians, reflecting its status as a Sydney institution.
