Commanders Name Daronte Jones as New Defensive Coordinator
The Washington Commanders have appointed Daronte Jones as their new defensive coordinator.
Jones previously held the roles of defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings.
Flores Stays with Vikings After Commanders Interview
Brian Flores, the Vikings' defensive coordinator, also interviewed for the Washington position before reaching a new agreement with Minnesota.
Jones's Extensive Coaching Pedigree
Jones joined the Vikings' staff in 2022 as the defensive backs coach and was given the additional title of passing game coordinator in the subsequent season.
His coaching career includes working under notable figures such as Vance Joseph, Mike Zimmer, and Flores.
Jones's professional experience also extends to the Dolphins (2016-17) and the Bengals (2018-19). In 2021, he served as LSU's defensive coordinator.
Commanders Seek Defensive Turnaround
The Commanders' previous defensive coordinator, Joe Whitt, was dismissed on January 6. Head coach Dan Quinn had taken over play-calling duties after Week 10 of the past season.
The team concluded the season ranking last in yards allowed and 27th in points allowed, indicating the significant challenge that awaits Jones.
