Australian Open: Sabalenka Dominates Quarter-Finals, Swiatek Faces Security Halt
Sabalenka Secures Semi-Final Spot, Jovic Makes History
Aryna Sabalenka, the World No. 1, has decisively secured her place in the Australian Open semi-finals. She achieved this by defeating Iva Jovic in the quarter-finals with a dominant score of 6-3, 6-0. The match proceeded with the roof open under high temperatures at Melbourne Park.
Following her victory, Sabalenka commended Jovic's play, acknowledging her opponent's efforts on court.
Iva Jovic, 18, marked her achievement as the youngest woman to reach the Australian Open quarter-final since Nicole Vaidosova in 2007. She also holds the distinction of being the lowest-seeded player to reach the quarters in either the men's or women's draw.
Sabalenka is now scheduled to play the winner of the upcoming match between Coco Gauff and Elina Svitolina in the semi-final round.
Swiatek Temporarily Halted by Security at Melbourne Park
In a separate incident at Melbourne Park, Iga Swiatek was temporarily stopped by security after her match against Maddison Inglis. Swiatek was halted at an entrance due to not having her credentials present. She waited for her credentials to be delivered before being allowed to proceed into the venue.
This type of encounter is not unprecedented at the event. Previous incidents of players encountering security for forgotten credentials at Melbourne Park include Roger Federer in 2019 and Rafael Nadal in 2020. Nadal was eventually recognized by a security member and granted entry during his incident.
