From Manufacturing Flaw to Viral Sensation

Zhang Huoqing, the owner of Happy Sister, a shop in Yiwu, initially anticipated issuing a refund to the customer who purchased the flawed toy. However, after an image of the toy began circulating online, sales surged unexpectedly.

The Gloomy Expression That Resonates

Zhang explained that the toy's gloomy expression has struck a chord with young workers across China.

Customers have reportedly identified with the toy's appearance, jokingly referring to it as reflecting their demeanor at work.

One buyer articulated their connection, stating that the toy mirrored their work feelings and expressed hope of leaving grievances behind in the upcoming Year of the Horse.

Product Details and Emotional Value

The red plush toy, standing approximately 20cm (7.8in) tall and priced at 25 yuan (£2.62), features a golden collar and bell. Notably, "money comes quickly" is embroidered on its body. Production has since ramped up to meet both domestic and international demand.

Lou Zhenxian, another shop owner in Yiwu, acknowledged the toy's appeal. Despite personally finding it "ugly," she recognized its success in capturing the:
