Victoria Sets New Maximum Temperature Record in Walpeup
Walpeup, Victoria, recently recorded a staggering temperature of 48.9 degrees Celsius around 3:30 PM on a Tuesday. This reading establishes a new maximum temperature record for the state.
This temperature briefly made Walpeup the hottest location on Earth.
Just an hour prior, Renmark, South Australia, had registered an even higher 49.6 degrees Celsius. The previous Victorian record of 48.8 degrees Celsius was set in Hopetoun in 2009.
Persistent Heatwave Conditions
The town of Ouyen, situated in the same region, also experienced similar extreme conditions. Temperatures in Ouyen exceeded 47 degrees Celsius by early afternoon on Tuesday. The town had already endured several days with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, and high temperatures are projected to continue until the weekend.
