Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy has announced he will assume offensive play-calling duties. This marks the first time in the team's history that a head coach will also call offensive plays.
McCarthy confirmed his role in his introductory press conference, stating:
"Definitely, I will call the plays on offense, and so obviously will run the offense."
The Steelers' offense has faced challenges since the retirement of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. In the 2025 season, the team, with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, ranked 25th in total offense with an average of 305.6 yards per game and 15th in scoring with 23.4 points per game. McCarthy's responsibilities will involve addressing these offensive performance aspects.
