Expanded Cross-Device Resume Functionality
Windows 11's cross-device resume capability has been enhanced to allow users to transition tasks more seamlessly between their mobile devices and PCs. This expansion, which has been under testing since August, primarily targets Android users.
The update introduces support for continuing activity in several new applications and services, including:
- Spotify for music playback.
- Microsoft's Office suite of applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Edge browsing sessions.
- Vivo's in-house Vivo Browser.
- Files opened in Copilot on Android phones from brands including Samsung, Honor, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
This expansion, which has been under testing since August, primarily targets Android users.
Previous Functionality
The cross-device resume feature was initially introduced in Windows 11 in May, with some reports indicating its broader rollout began last year. The initial implementation primarily supported OneDrive, allowing users to resume working on files, such as Word documents, on their PC if they had been interacted with on a mobile device within the previous five minutes. This earlier functionality was available for both Android and iOS devices.

Availability and Rollout
The current expansion of cross-device resume support is part of the latest Release Preview update for Windows 11. It is being released through Windows 11 builds 26100.7701 and 26200.7701 to participants in the Windows Insider program on the Release Preview Channel.
The rollout within the program is gradual, meaning not all users will receive immediate access. A broader public release is anticipated in the coming weeks.
