Former Council Worker Charged Over Alleged $1.3 Million Fraud
A 59-year-old former council worker has been charged after allegedly stealing almost $1.3 million from three different councils in southern New South Wales.
The individual is accused of authorizing and approving fake invoices for contractors. This allegedly occurred while working in the Goulburn, Shoalhaven, and Murrumbidgee areas. The funds were then purportedly deposited into bank accounts controlled by the worker.
It is alleged that $1,295,029.94 was stolen through this method over a 12-year period, between 2012 and 2024.
Investigation and Charges
Police investigations into the alleged fraud began in May 2024. The 59-year-old was subsequently arrested at Parramatta Police Station.
He was charged with 41 counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception. The individual also faces one count of holder of public office misconduct.
Bail was refused, and the man was scheduled to appear at Parramatta Local Court.
