Boat Catches Fire and Sinks in Port Phillip Bay
A 12-meter vessel caught fire and subsequently sank in Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay, off Chelsea Beach, around 11:40 AM. Large plumes of black smoke were observed from the shore following the incident.
One person was onboard the boat when the fire occurred.
This individual was rescued by a nearby vessel and assessed by paramedics, sustaining no injuries.
Firefighters battled the blaze from two fire boats. The incident took place approximately five to six kilometers west of Carrum.
The boat became submerged in the water shortly after the flames were extinguished, around 12:30 PM.
Water police are on scene.
