A special tribunal in Dhaka has convicted Bangladesh's former Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, of crimes against humanity.
The tribunal has sentenced Ms. Hasina to death after finding her responsible for ordering a violent crackdown on student-led protests last year. During these events, the United Nations estimated that up to 1,400 people died, with most fatalities attributed to gunfire from security forces.
Following the verdict, Ms. Hasina released a statement asserting that the court's decision was "biased and politically motivated."
