Extensive details regarding Sony's forthcoming WF-1000XM6 wireless earbuds have emerged, encompassing images, design changes, and technical specifications.
A Bold New Design: Pill-Shaped Earbuds and Sharper Case
Leaked images indicate a redesigned, pill-shaped form factor for the WF-1000XM6 earbuds, a departure from the circular or "truffle" designs of previous models like the WF-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM4. The finish is reportedly matte, contrasting with the glossy appearance of the WF-1000XM5. Observers note the earbuds appear thick from the side.
The design is said to be refined for improved comfort and ergonomics, incorporating "insulated tips" intended for a better fit.
The eartips' nozzle also appears slightly larger, further contributing to the ergonomic enhancements. The charging case displays a less curvy and more distinct, sharp build that appears bulky, differing from its predecessor.
Under the Hood: Powerful New Processor and Enhanced Audio
The WF-1000XM6 is expected to feature a new QN3e processor, which is reportedly three times faster than the processor in the Sony WF-1000XM5. This upgraded processor is anticipated to significantly enhance Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) performance. The earbuds are equipped with both ANC and transparency modes, along with an IPX4 water-resistance rating for splash resistance.

Initial visual details from one leak suggested three external microphones, with the potential for a fourth internal microphone. However, a subsequent leak specifies that the earbuds will include two additional microphones, totaling eight, alongside a new speaker, an improved Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC), and an enhanced amplifier.
Battery life with ANC active is stated to be eight hours for the earbuds, with an additional 16 hours provided by the charging case. This impressive battery performance matches that of the WF-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM4 models. Furthermore, the Sony | Sound Connect app's equalizer is expected to be upgraded from five to ten adjustable bands, offering users more precise sound customization.
Color Palette Expands as Launch Nears
Leaked images primarily showed Black and Platinum Silver (also referred to as off-white) color options. However, reports from some sources, including information shared by Roland Quandt, suggest a Sandpink variant is also expected at launch. This would potentially offer more color choices than the WF-1000XM5, which initially launched with limited options before introducing a Smoky Pink variant later. Previous expectations, based on shipping manifests, had suggested only black and silver.
The WF-1000XM6 earbuds are rumored to debut as early as next month, with anticipated pricing at $329.99 in the US and €299.99 in the Eurozone.
