Last week, a severe geomagnetic storm led to visible Aurora Borealis displays. These auroras were observed in various locations, extending as far south as Florida, with reported sightings in South Dakota.
The forecast for the current week indicates a return to relatively quiet geomagnetic activity.
However, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) reports that the sun is currently at the peak of its 11-year solar cycle, a period known as 'solar maximum.' This phase has the potential to result in an increased occurrence of severe geomagnetic storms.
