The Retro98 chassis, developed by SilverStone (FLP02, priced at $249), features a beige color. Its design incorporates elements such as dummy disk drives and a "turbo" button, which controls fan speeds. The computer is designed for modern operation, supporting Windows 11.
Internal Components
Despite its retro appearance, the Retro98 is equipped with current generation components. It offers the option for AMD's new Ryzen 9 9850X3D processor.
Maingear states the product is hand-built, featuring an LED fan speed display, turbo button, and power lockout key on the front panel. Internal details include sleeved cables and a liquid cooling pump/reservoir unit housed in a 5.25-inch drive bay.
Despite its retro appearance, the Retro98 is equipped with current generation components.
Configurations and Pricing
The Retro98 is offered in four configurations. The high-end Retro98a model includes an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card and liquid cooling, priced at approximately $10,000.
Other configurations are priced at $2,499, $3,499, and $4,999.
Availability
Production of the Retro98 is limited to 32 units, with an additional 6 Retro98a units available.
Precedent
This release follows Maingear's Retro95, introduced last year, which featured a horizontal desktop layout reminiscent of older home computers. The Retro95 was also a limited-edition product and sold out quickly.
