Walz Skeptical of Trump Administration's Immigration Enforcement Claims
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has expressed skepticism regarding statements from the Trump administration concerning the de-escalation of its immigration enforcement in the state, telling NPR that he believes the administration will not adhere to its word.
Walz, a Democrat, shared these views during an interview with All Things Considered host Juana Summers on Friday. This discussion took place after several weeks of protests and the fatal shootings of Renee Macklin Good and Alex Pretti.
Governor Walz stated his intent to "find a way forward" but clarified that he would not compromise on the First Amendment.
He specifically rejected the characterization by Trump administration border official Tom Homan regarding constitutionally protected rights of peaceful expression of grievance against the government, calling it essential to democracy.
