Volkanovski Successfully Defends Title, Matches Aldo's Record

Alexander Volkanovski successfully defended his championship title against Diego Lopes in his 17th fight in Australia. This marked his sixth championship defense and the first time both events occurred simultaneously for him.

Volkanovski secured a unanimous decision victory. Two judges scored the bout 4-1 in his favor, and one judge scored it 5-0. This result was notably clearer than their previous encounter 10 months prior, which was scored 4-1, 4-1, and 3-2.

Following his decisive win, Volkanovski commented on his preparation and in-fight adjustments:

"We were ready for him to make adjustments. That just means I've got to use my other tools. That's what makes a true champion. I've got 'em all. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't have skills."

This victory represents Volkanovski's eighth overall championship win in the 145-pound division, matching Jose Aldo's record. Aldo held the title from 2010 to 2015, regained it, and later lost it to Max Holloway, whom Volkanovski defeated to begin his initial reign in 2019.

For Diego Lopes, this marked his third loss in nine fights since joining the organization in 2021.
