Lightning Honor Buccaneers with "Creamsicle" Throwbacks at Stadium Series
The Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning participated in the tradition of themed outfits for arrivals at NHL outdoor games, appearing at the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series.
A Sweet Tribute: Buccaneers' "Creamsicle" Uniforms
The Tampa Bay Lightning paid tribute to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by wearing the team's orange "creamsicle" uniforms.
These distinctive uniforms were a staple for the Buccaneers from their founding in 1976 until 1996. While the Buccaneers adopted a red-and-pewter color scheme in 1997, they reintroduced the orange uniforms as throwbacks in 2009 and continue to wear them periodically.
Complete Ensemble and Special Guests
Lightning players wore the complete uniform, which included a white striped helmet featuring the old Buccaneers logo, depicting a pirate with a feathered hat and a dagger.
The team traveled to the stadium by trolley and was joined by current Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and two-time All-Pro tackle Tristan Wirfs. Mayfield wore a Stadium Series Lightning jersey, while Wirfs chose a black throwback Lightning jersey, which the team used from its inaugural 1992-93 season until 2006-07, and carried a 1990s-era boombox.
