Underworld Figure Sam Abdulrahim's Elaborate Tombstone Destroyed

The elaborate tombstone of murdered underworld figure Sam “The Punisher” Abdulrahim was destroyed in an attack on Sunday night. The nearly six-foot marble tribute, featuring photos and a gold-embossed silhouette of Abdulrahim, was shattered into fragments. The grave itself appeared undisturbed.

The incident occurred four days after the first anniversary of Abdulrahim’s murder. He was fatally shot in front of his girlfriend in an underground hotel car park in Preston in February 2025.

Investigation Details

Victoria Police detectives are investigating the incident.

An anonymous underworld source suggested the desecration may be a message from associates of Farshad Hamad, a gangland figure recently arrested in Iraq, to rivals, signaling that their operations continue despite Hamad’s apprehension.

The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, which manages Northern Memorial Park where the grave is located, confirmed that Abdulrahim’s family and police attended the site to assess the damage after cemetery staff were notified on Monday morning. The Trust stated that security measures, including physical security, CCTV, and patrols, are in place at its sites.

Previous Incidents

Responsibility for destroying Abdulrahim’s grave remains unclear. However, Hamad has been previously linked to incidents of grave desecration.

In July 2023, a plot attributed to Hamad involved the attempted theft and mutilation of the body of Meshilin “Mesh” Marrogi, sister and partner of jailed gangland boss George Marrogi. The plan, which reportedly aimed to send a video of the mutilation to Marrogi in prison, was not fully executed due to a broken elevator at Preston Cemetery, which prevented the casket from being moved.

During this attempt, the casket was opened, and a diamond ring was removed, though no arrests have been made in that case.
