Artists Address Immigration at Grammy Awards
Billie Eilish addressed Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) during her acceptance speech at the Grammy Awards. After receiving the award for Song of the Year for "Wildflower," Eilish concluded her remarks by stating:
"f--- ICE."
Earlier in the ceremony, English singer Olivia Dean also commented on immigration. Accepting the award for Best New Artist, Dean stated:
"I’m up here as the granddaughter of an immigrant. I’m a product of bravery and those people deserve to be celebrated. We’re nothing without each other."
Dean has Jamaican and Guyanese heritage.
The artists' statements occurred during the Grammys, where immigration policy and the actions of ICE agents were a topic of discussion, following developments such as the killing of emergency room nurse Alex Pretti on January 24.
