Mount Semeru, Indonesia's highest volcano on Java Island, erupted. The eruption generated ash columns estimated to reach 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) above its peak.
Observations indicated large smoke plumes covering a bridge and extending across the adjacent countryside. Additionally, CCTV footage recorded a pyroclastic flow, characterized as a rapid movement of hot gas, ash, and volcanic rock, originating approximately 7 kilometers from the volcano's summit.
