Draper Sidelined: Lions Recruit Sam Draper Suffers Foot Injury
Brisbane Lions recruit Sam Draper will miss the beginning of the AFL season after scans confirmed a stress reaction in his right foot. The injury is expected to sideline the ruckman for six to eight weeks.
Draper is certain to be unavailable for the club's Opening Round match and may be considered for selection for Brisbane's second game, against Sydney in Round 1.
The setback means Draper will miss the Lions' highly anticipated Opening Round clash. His potential return could be as early as Round 1 against Sydney, depending on his recovery.
Coach's Comments and Injury History
Lions coach Chris Fagan stated that Draper, a former Essendon ruckman, reported foot soreness prior to a pre-season camp.
This injury follows a challenging period for Draper, who spent much of his previous season recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered last April. That significant injury limited him to just five games.
Ruck Contingency and Other Returns
With Draper's absence, Darcy Fort is anticipated to step up as the Lions' primary ruckman for their upcoming match against the Western Bulldogs on March 7.
In more positive news for the club, other key additions are expected to be available. Former West Coast captain Oscar Allen is anticipated to play in the Opening Round. Additionally, Lincoln McCarthy and Keidean Coleman are working towards returning for the Opening Round following their own previous injuries.
