Reggie Miller Compares Caitlin Clark to Payton Pritchard on Broadcast Debut
During her debut broadcast on NBC's "Basketball Night in America" on Sunday, Indiana Fever player Caitlin Clark was present when Pacers legend Reggie Miller compared her playing style to that of Boston Celtics guard Payton Pritchard.
Miller's Pritchard Comparison
Miller highlighted Pritchard's on-court attributes and drew parallels to Clark's approach to the game.
"I like Payton Pritchard from Boston. The way he's able to handle the basketball." Miller added that Pritchard "makes big shots when the shot clock's running down. A lot like this young lady right here. Isn't afraid of the big moment and is a champion like she's soon to be."
Pritchard, the NBA's reigning Sixth Man of the Year, averaged 6.4 points in 18.7 minutes per game during Boston's 2024 championship run.
Clark, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, did not vocalize a response to the comparison, instead offering a smile and looking down.
Miller's Shooter Rankings
Miller also asserted his updated ranking among Indiana's top shooters. He stated that he is now the third-best shooter in Indiana, following Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton and Caitlin Clark, who is the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I history.
Carmelo Anthony's Luka Doncic Comparison
Former NBA forward Carmelo Anthony, an NBC Sports analyst, offered another high-profile comparison for Clark's game during the broadcast. Anthony compared Clark's style to that of Lakers star Luka Doncic, noting her ability to play in open court, her vision, shooting capability, and how she keeps defenses reacting.
Clark's Broadcast Role
Clark, the first overall pick by the Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft and a two-time WNBA All-Star, joined NBC Sports as a special contributor. Her debut broadcast occurred prior to a Knicks' 112-102 victory over the Lakers at Madison Square Garden.
