Man Charged with Additional Domestic Violence Offenses Including Sexual Assault and Coercive Control

A man has been charged with additional domestic violence offenses, including sexual intercourse without consent and coercive control, following an incident last year where a woman was allegedly chained in a Sydney home.

Investigation Unfolds

The investigation began on August 5 of the previous year, when a 32-year-old woman reported alleged domestic violence to a police station in the Illawarra region of New South Wales.

Police allege that between July and August of that year, a 34-year-old man, known to the woman, chained her within their residence on The Esplanade in Oak Flats. He is also accused of inflicting ongoing physical assaults, which included throwing scissors and a meat tenderizer at her.

The woman received hospital treatment for injuries, including fractures to her eye socket and multiple broken ribs.

Arrest and Expanded Charges

The 34-year-old man was initially arrested on August 6 at the Oak Flats home. He was charged with multiple offenses, including kidnapping and assault.

Following further legal review, he was subsequently charged with additional offenses. These new allegations include sexual intercourse without consent, choking, and coercive control.

Court Appearance

The man has remained in custody since his initial court appearance last August and is scheduled to appear in court again today.
