South Australian Innovation Honored with Global Sustainability Awards
South Australian climate technology company CH4 Global has received two major international sustainability awards, successfully placing regional innovation on the global map.
The Adelaide-founded business was recognized as a double winner at the 2026 SEAL Awards in the United States. CH4 Global was honored for its environmental impact and its primary product, Methane Tamer.
Double Recognition from SEAL Awards
The SEAL Awards identify impactful sustainability initiatives and products, selecting 50 companies globally each year. CH4 Global received the SEAL Environmental Initiative Award for its work in reducing global methane emissions and the SEAL Sustainable Product Award for Methane Tamer itself.

Methane Tamer: A Breakthrough Solution
Methane Tamer is a feed supplement designed to reduce methane emissions from cattle by up to 90 percent. The product utilizes Asparagopsis, a native red seaweed cultivated on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.
CH4 Global has established the world’s first EcoPark on the Eyre Peninsula dedicated to growing Asparagopsis. Once dried and processed into Methane Tamer, the seaweed is added to cattle feed at a rate of half a percent of their daily intake, which delivers a notable reduction in enteric methane emissions produced through digestion.

Cultivating a New Industry in Regional South Australia
CEO Steve Meller stated that the recognition acknowledges years of work in building a new industry in regional South Australia. He added that by cultivating Asparagopsis, which is native to southern Australian waters, the company provides farmers with a natural seaweed solution to influence their emissions.
The awards position CH4 Global alongside global entities including British Airways, General Motors, Lenovo, Hitachi Energy, and Wolters Kluwer.
Scaling for Global Demand
At its Louth Bay EcoPark, CH4 Global grows and processes Asparagopsis at scale across 10 large cultivation ponds with a combined capacity of two million liters, yielding up to 80 metric tonnes of seaweed annually. Phase one of the facility became operational last year, representing a significant step toward commercial-scale production.
Methane-reduced beef from cattle fed Methane Tamer is currently available through South Australian butchers and restaurants, with a major supermarket rollout expected.
Mr. Meller commented that farmers report improved methane emission reduction and cow health, and a new market has been established for consumers seeking methane-reduced beef.
With operations extending across Australia and the United States, CH4 Global is now scaling to meet global demand while maintaining its operational base in South Australia.
