Strategic Land Use Debate: Housing vs. Defence Priorities

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has been questioned about whether strategic land sites will be prioritized for housing projects. Marles stated that some of the land in question is "very strategic."

He affirmed, however, that not all properties would be allocated solely for housing. As Minister of Defence, Marles highlighted a key guiding principle for such decisions.

"Maximizing value is a key guiding principle as Minister of Defence."

Finance Minister Katy Gallagher also addressed the matter, indicating that a decision regarding the future use of these sites has not yet been finalized. Gallagher expressed optimism regarding potential outcomes.

"Some sites might be reserved for housing, while also noting they would be used for diverse purposes."
