Lorde Donates Merchandise Sales to Immigration Rights Groups
Singer Lorde has donated $204,000 from her merchandise sales in Minneapolis to the Minnesota Immigration Rights Action Committee and Immigrant Defense Network.
This significant contribution follows her performances in Minneapolis on October 11-12, held as part of her “Ultrasound World Tour.”
Lorde announced the donation via an Instagram post, which included an image featuring the phrase “ICE out” written on her hand.
Artists Advocate on Immigration Enforcement
The donation by Lorde aligns with broader sentiments expressed by numerous musicians regarding U.S. immigration enforcement.
At a recent Grammy Awards event, several artists, including Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, and Kehlani, were seen wearing “ICE out” pins. Some award recipients also utilized their acceptance speeches to bring attention to the issue.
Bad Bunny's Grammy Acceptance Speech
Bad Bunny, upon receiving the award for best mĂşsica urbana album at the Grammy Awards, specifically stated:
“ICE out.” He further remarked, “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.” He also added, “The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love. So please, we need to be different.”
Billie Eilish Addresses Immigration at the Grammys
Similarly, Billie Eilish, while accepting the song of the year award, made her stance clear:
“no one is illegal on stolen land.” She further commented, “it’s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now, and I feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting, and our voices really do matter, and the people matter, and fuck ICE.”
