Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez Cast in Todd Haynes' "De Noche"
Todd Haynes' anticipated film "De Noche" is proceeding with Pedro Pascal officially cast as a hard-boiled detective and Danny Ramirez as his lover. Filming is scheduled to commence next month.
MK2 Films, a French independent banner, is financing the project and managing international sales. The company is co-representing domestic rights alongside Cinetic Media. Producing the film are Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films.
Haynes co-wrote the screenplay with his longtime collaborator Jon Raymond. The story unfolds in 1930s Los Angeles, depicting a love affair between a police officer, played by Pascal, and a boarding school teacher, portrayed by Ramirez. Their relationship makes them targets of the city's political machine, compelling them to flee to Mexico. The narrative is set against a backdrop of urban corruption and global tension.
This project marks Pedro Pascal's first collaboration with director Todd Haynes.
Haynes articulated the film's thematic depth, stating:
The story "arises out of an era — all too relevant to our own — of domestic corruption, racial exploitation and global terror" and "emerges as a testament to the inexplicable powers of desire and love to survive and overcome even the most crippling of human barriers."
Fionnuala Jamison, managing director of MK2 Films, highlighted Haynes' strong connection with audiences and the anticipated emotional impact of "De Noche." International sales for the project are slated to launch at the European Film Market in Berlin.
Further production support is being provided by Paloma Negra Films and MK2, alongside Jonathan Montepare and Steven Demmler. Additional financing contributors include IPR.VC, Yggdrasil, Léger Production, Mid March, Pluto, and Leaf Entertainment.
