Russia Declares New START Treaty Obligations Void

The Russian foreign ministry has stated that in the current circumstances, the parties to the New START treaty are no longer considered bound by any obligations or symmetrical declarations related to the treaty, including its core provisions.

The ministry indicated that parties are now "in principle free to choose their next steps."
