Take-Two CEO Confirms No Generative AI for GTA 6 Development
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) will not incorporate Generative AI in its development process. Zelnick stated that the company does not perceive Generative AI as a viable method for producing high-quality entertainment.
"Generative AI has no role in Rockstar Games' development of GTA 6."
Zelnick emphasized that every aspect of GTA 6 is being meticulously handcrafted. While acknowledging that Generative AI could potentially enhance efficiency and reduce costs, he explicitly stated that he does not consider it beneficial for creating entertainment properties. He further clarified that Generative AI plays no part in Rockstar Games' development of the highly anticipated title.
The CEO also expressed skepticism about Generative AI's ability to deliver significant entertainment value in the future.
Distinguishing AI Technologies
However, Zelnick differentiated between Generative AI and established technologies such as procedural generation and traditional artificial intelligence. He explained that Take-Two has consistently utilized these long-standing methods. These technologies are employed for crucial functions like decision-making and pattern recognition, which are essential for elements such as non-player characters (NPCs) and the overall dynamic operation of a game world.
