Police Raid Uncovers Crocodile, Cobra, Drugs, and Firearm in Collombatti
Police have conducted a raid on a property in Collombatti, near Kempsey in NSW, seizing a significant cache of more than 50 reptiles, including a snapping saltwater crocodile. The operation, part of a drug investigation, also led to the discovery of a hydroponic cannabis setup and a firearm.
Extensive Discoveries
During the search, authorities reported an alarming collection of animals.
"Authorities reported discovering 38 snakes, including a cobra, 19 lizards, three hedgehogs, and numerous dogs and cats during the search. A 1.3-meter saltwater crocodile was also found."
Specifically, 38 snakes (including a cobra), 19 lizards, and three hedgehogs were found. A 1.3-meter saltwater crocodile was also discovered, alongside numerous dogs and cats.
Alongside the animals, police seized over 52 hydroponic cannabis plants and 11 kilograms of cannabis leaf. The total estimated street value of the cannabis is $85,000. Furthermore, a rifle was located concealed within a kitchen on the property.
Man Arrested and Charged
A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the finds. He has been subsequently charged with offenses related to weapons, drugs, and illegal animal trading. The man is scheduled to appear in online bail court.
Animals Receive Care
Licensed reptile handlers, with assistance from the RSPCA and Kempsey Shire Council, have taken all of the seized animals into care, ensuring their welfare.
