Crusaders Set for Final Pre-Season Clash Against Blues
The Crusaders are scheduled to play their second and final pre-season match against the Blues on February 6 at Takapuna Rugby Club, Onewa Domain, Auckland.
Match Format and Strategy
The game will consist of two 40-minute halves. The Crusaders plan to deploy two distinct teams of 15 players, one for each half. This strategy aims to provide game time for a wider squad and evaluate various player combinations ahead of the season.
Key Player Returns and Lineup Insights
Several All Blacks players are set to rejoin the squad for this crucial pre-season encounter:
- David Havili returns to the midfield and will captain the first-half side from second five-eighth.
- George Bell will start at hooker.
- Leicester Fainga’anuku is set to play on the left wing.
In the second half, George Bower is slated to play at prop, and Christian Lio-Willie will take over the captaincy from Havili, playing at Number 8.
Halfback Noah Hotham makes his return to play after fracturing his leg in September. First-five Taha Kemara commented on Hotham's return:
"We've played our whole lives together and spent a bit of time together as well off the field. Both of us have had quite a few injuries the last few months, and he's obviously got back now and he's back on his feet, which is awesome. With our combination, we're just working hard on the field and hopefully we do get the opportunity when it comes to the season."
The potent combination of Sevu Reece on the right wing and Chay Fihaki at fullback is also anticipated to feature during the match.
