New Gossip Girl Novel to Feature Blair Waldorf's Return
Author Cecily Von Ziegesar is developing a new novel set in the Gossip Girl universe, which will center on the character Blair Waldorf. This upcoming book is anticipated for release in summer 2027, though no specific date has been announced.
The upcoming book is set approximately 20 years after the original series. It will depict Blair's return to the Upper East Side and her re-entry into New York City's elite social scene.
About the New Novel
The narrative of the new novel will unfold approximately two decades after the original series' timeline. Readers will follow Blair Waldorf as she returns to New York City's Upper East Side and re-establishes herself within its exclusive social circles.
The Original Book Series
Von Ziegesar's original Gossip Girl book series consisted of 13 novels, published between 2002 and 2009. The franchise also expanded with various spin-off titles, including the parody novel Gossip Girl: Psycho Killer.
In these novels, Blair Waldorf was friends with Serena Van der Woodsen and Nate Archibald, forming a central love triangle. Nate's relationships with both women ultimately fractured their dynamic, leading the characters to separate as they matured. Notably, Blair also had a brief relationship with Chuck Bass during college, a detail that differs from the television adaptation where their relationship was a major focus and culminated in their marriage.
Television Adaptations
The original novel series inspired the popular CW television series Gossip Girl, which aired for six seasons from 2007 to 2012. Leighton Meester's portrayal of Blair Waldorf in the show significantly contributed to the character's status as a pop culture icon.
More recently, a sequel series, also titled Gossip Girl, streamed on HBO Max from 2021 to 2023.
Author's Other Works and Streaming Availability
Outside of the Gossip Girl franchise, Cecily Von Ziegesar's most recent novel, Cobble Hill, was released in October 2020. The original Gossip Girl television series is currently available for streaming on HBO Max and Netflix.
