Sean Baker and Michelle Yeoh's "Sandiwara" Set for Berlin Film Festival Premiere
Director Sean Baker and actor Michelle Yeoh have collaborated on a new film project titled "Sandiwara."
The film is scheduled to world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival later this month.
Self-Portrait Collaboration and Residency Program
"Sandiwara" is a unique collaboration with the London-based fashion house Self-Portrait. It marks the inaugural film from Self-Portrait's Residency program, an initiative designed to invite creatives to design using their distinctive style. The program provides essential infrastructure, platforms, resources, teams, and a distribution network to promote external creative works.
Film Details and Cultural Exploration
The film features Michelle Yeoh in five distinct roles and is set within the vibrant backdrop of a Malaysian night market. Its synopsis indicates an exploration of Malaysian culture through the unique stories of each character. The title “Sandiwara” is a Malay word meaning “drama, theatrical performance, or play,” and the film was shot on location in Penang, Malaysia.

A special screening of "Sandiwara" is scheduled to take place at the Berlin Film Festival on February 13. This event will be followed by a conversation with both Sean Baker and Michelle Yeoh.
