Charlotte Hornets Reshape Roster in Series of Trades
The Charlotte Hornets have been active at the trade deadline, executing a series of transactions that have impacted both their roster and financial flexibility. A key deal involved guard Tyus Jones, resulting in a multi-team exchange.
Key Tyus Jones Transaction
The Hornets initially acquired guard Tyus Jones along with two second-round picks from the Orlando Magic. This acquisition was made in exchange for cash considerations.
Following this initial move, the Hornets subsequently traded Tyus Jones to the Dallas Mavericks. In return, the Mavericks sent forward Malaki Branham to Charlotte.
This transaction also resulted in the Charlotte Hornets opening a $7 million trade exception.
Jones's Current Season Performance
During the current season, Tyus Jones has averaged 3 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. His role on the court was scaled back compared to his starting position in the 2024-25 season.
Additional Deadline Activity
The Charlotte Hornets have made other significant moves beyond the Tyus Jones trade. They also acquired Coby White and Mike Conley Jr. from the Chicago Bulls in a separate transaction. Furthermore, the Hornets secured forward Ousmane Dieng from the Oklahoma City Thunder by trading center Mason Plumlee.
The Dallas Mavericks, actively participating in the trade market, also completed another notable deal. Prior to acquiring Tyus Jones, the Mavericks traded big man Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards.
